Summary: Pretty self-explanatory. Someone needs a hug!

It had been one of those days. The kind where a million little irritations pile up on one another, and grow unbearable for their sheer quantity. When everyone with whom you come into contact seems to have annoying you as the sole item on their agenda, and when anything that could possibly go wrong, does. That was the kind of day Colin was having, and he wanted nothing more than for it to end. The thought of being completely alone to lick his wounds in peace was incredibly appealing. He wasn’t going to have that opportunity, though. He sighed as he parked the car and turned off the ignition. Slowly, he got out and trudged up the driveway towards the back door.

Colin couldn’t have sworn as to just how Ryan knew. Perhaps his shoulders were slumped, or his footsteps heavier than usual. Maybe it was just that the weariness showed too plainly on his face. But he was pretty sure that it was the "psychic connection" between them - that way they had of knowing what the other was thinking or feeling, of sensing what they were about to do before they did it. They'd termed it that long ago, in the early days of doing improv, giving the name to the extraordinary chemistry that neither of them had ever experienced with anyone else. At first it happened mainly when performing together. Later, as they grew closer offstage, it extended to their personal relationship as well, and by now it was such a part of them that they never had to ask about the other’s emotional state. They always just knew.

So most likely it was that instantaneous reading of Colin’s mind that replaced the grin on Ryan's face with a look of concern as he set down the wine glasses he'd been holding in readiness for Colin's arrival and quickly moved to his side (in two strides, while it would have taken anyone else three, Colin couldn't help noting with a slight smile, already feeling less despondent), pulling him into his arms in a powerful, but warm, embrace. He exhaled deeply as he relaxed against the other man, resting his head against his shoulder and relishing the feel of the gentle hands that rubbed his back, soothing away the tension. His own arms tightened around Ryan, drawing comfort from the touch. Neither spoke. There wasn't any need. After a long moment of letting the stress drain away, Colin drew back and smiled into green eyes that searched his face, earning a relieved smile in return as Ryan confirmed for himself that there was nothing seriously wrong. He reached out and patted Ryan's shoulder in gratitude.

"Thanks," he said simply.
