Here are my four entries for anesthesiagirl's character drabble challenge:

Colin

When he was very young, he tried to dance like Fred Astaire, but his sister laughed at him until he stopped.

Then he went around the house trying to sing like Frank Sinatra till the dog started to howl and his little brother screamed, “STOP IT STOP IT STOP IIIIIIIIIIIIT!”

He spent the next few years wanting to be a marine biologist, because fish and whales don’t tell you when you aren’t any good at anything.

Then one day a friend dared him to go onstage and make people laugh on purpose. He decided to give it a try….

Drew

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

If anybody gets hurt onset, Drew’s usually the first to ask, and the last to be reassured. You could have shards of glass in your hair, a Chip on your shoulder, hot coffee all over your hands, or a battery pack stuck halfway up where the sun don’t shine and he’d be ready to call in the Marines.

“Are you sure you’re not hurt? Are you really okay?”

So many times he’s asked this question, and all he can do is shake his head in disbelief as they keep on going like nothing ever happened.

Jeff

Greg thinks Jeff reminds him of a cat sometimes, the way he watches Drew through half-closed eyes, waiting for the next game to begin.

The way he never blusters, seldom swaggers, just saunters onstage and claims the entire green screen, thank you very much.

Then one night outside the studio, when he’s dancing down a curb slick with rain his foot slips -- splash! -- into the gutter, sending dirty water spattering all over his tailored slacks. He looks around to see Greg sniggering and says quite solemnly, “I meant to do that,” before shaking both legs and stalking off.

Wayne

He usually gives them hugs at the end: as an apology, but also as a thank-you for making him look good.

Some of the people Drew picks for him to serenade are embarrassed by what he sings. Others lap it up laughing, basking in their fifteen seconds of fame for as long as it lasts. A few of them flee the stage without even looking at him, but most stay longer than that, if only for the chance of shaking Drew’s hand afterwards.

And always Wayne tries to give them hugs, but a lot of times they won’t hug back.
